Meta Admits There is a Bug That Makes the IG Stories Archive Disappear

Morrissey Technology – On Wednesday (1/8) a number of Instagram users around the world said they were shocked because they received notifications that their uploads in the Stories feature archive had been permanently deleted and could not be restored. What is it?

“Certain photos have been permanently deleted from the app’s Stories archives, unable to be recovered,” the notification said.

Meta the digital company that oversees Instagram–admitted that there was a bug or error code that caused a number of users’ story archives to disappear. In an official statement, a Meta spokesperson last Wednesday said the bug could be anticipated.  Apart from that, he said that not all Instagram users experience this problem. Those who were found to be affected by the bug, he said, were the ones who then received notifications.

“We discovered and fixed a bug that was causing some people’s Story highlights and archives to be deleted. Unfortunately, we were unable to restore these Stories and we are notifying people in the app if they were impacted,” the Meta spokesperson said without explaining how many Instagram users who are affected.

Instagram Stories is a more relaxed and less binding form of posting on a user’s account. Users can upload photos, videos, or text posts that will disappear within 24 hours.

Additionally, more exclusive content can be included in a curated Close Friends list or can be permanently placed on your profile as a story highlight. Stories are different from regular posts, as they are often personalized with music, gifs, text, filters, and interactive features like polls or quizzes. Even though it can disappear within 24 hours, Instagram provides an archive feature that allows users to save one of their stories.

Apple and Meta

Apple and Meta Face Regulatory Challenges in Europe, Why?

Morrissey Technology – Two giant American technology companies, Apple and Meta, are reportedly facing new regulatory challenges in Europe. Apple is related to its application store App Store, while Meta is centered on artificial intelligence (AI) assistants.

Based on a report from the Financial Times (FT), the European Commission (EC) will file charges against Apple. The iPhone maker did not comply with requirements that allow app developers to direct users to offers available outside the App Store BO Togel without charging them.

If such charges are indeed filed against Apple, it could be the first time the EC has done so under the recently implemented Digital Markets Act (DMA), according to the report. The European Commission said in March that it was using its powers under the DMA to investigate Apple, Alphabet and Meta.

The report adds that regulators are only making preliminary findings, they may reassess any final decision if Apple changes its practices, and that the timing of any decision is subject to change.

“We believe our plans comply with the DMA, and we will continue to engage constructively with the European Commission as they conduct their investigation,” Apple FOR4D said in a statement.

Meta, meanwhile, said earlier that it had paused plans to launch its AI assistant, Meta AI, in Europe after the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), on behalf of the European data protection authority (DPA), asked it to postpone training of large language models ( LLM) with content shared by adults on Facebook and Instagram Meta platforms.

Meta said in an update that it was disappointed with the request, that it had incorporated feedback from DPA Europe and that the request marked a step backwards for European innovation.

“We are committed to bringing Meta AI FOR4D, along with the models that power it, to more people around the world, including in Europe,” Meta said in the update.

“However, simply put, without including local information, we can only offer people a second-class experience. This means we cannot launch Meta AI in Europe at this time,” he continued.

Threads

Pamper Sports Fans, Threads Adds Live Score Feature

Morrissey Technology – Social media platform Threads will reportedly start showing live sports scores, starting with NBA basketball games. This was conveyed directly by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, he said that he would add more scores for other sports matches in the near future. Threads explains how this live score system works, so during the match, just search for the teams and users will see the latest scores. If the game ends, the search will return the final score. Users can also find out when the match will start by searching for it in advance.

The feature is clearly similar to how X works, as the platform started showing live sports scores in 2017, when it was still called Twitter. Each score is accompanied by two team logos. Tapping on these logos will take users to a conversation about that team. A Threads spokesperson told Engadget that basketball has become one of the most popular topics and NBA Threads has become one of the most active sports communities on the app.

This makes sense, as NBA discourse is also huge on X. NBA Twitter, as it is called in sports media, regularly drives coverage and conversation about the professional basketball league. It seems Meta hopes to take some of that influence.

Apple also recently announced its own sports-related initiatives. The first-party Sports iPhone FOR4D app offers real-time statistics for a number of major leagues, including the NBA, and displays live scoring data on the lock screen during games.
