Elon Musk Predicts All Human Jobs Will Be Taken by AI

Morrissey TechnologyElon Musk said that artificial intelligence or AI will take over human jobs. However, that is not a bad thing. Why is that?

“Probably none of us will have a job,” Elon Musk said about AI at the VivaTech technology conference in Paris.

Elon Musk also described that in the future, work will be optional, aka a choice for humans or not a necessity, as AI becomes more widespread.

“If you want to do work that is similar to a hobby, you can do it. But if not, AI and robots will provide whatever goods and services you want,” said Musk.

He explains that for this scenario to work, there needs to be a ‘universal high income’ system FOR4D. However, it should not be confused with universal basic income, although he himself does not explain what that would look like. (UBI or Universal Basic Income refers to the government giving a certain amount of money to everyone regardless of how much they earn).

“There will be no shortage of goods or services,” he added.

AI capabilities have surged over the past few years, fast enough that regulators, companies, and consumers are still looking for ways to use this technology responsibly. Concerns also continue to rise about how various industries and jobs will change as AI advances in society.

In January, researchers at MIT found that adoption of AI in some workplaces was slower than expected. They also report that many jobs thought to be vulnerable to AI are simply not economical to automate.

Experts believe that jobs that require emotional intelligence and human interaction, such as mental health professionals, creatives, and teachers, do not need to be replaced. Musk himself has voiced his concerns about AI. During his keynote speech on Thursday, he called technology his biggest fear.

He cited the ‘Culture Book Series’ by Ian Banks, a fictional utopian view of a society run by advanced technology, as the most realistic and best depiction of AI in the future.

However, in a work-free future, Musk questions whether people will feel emotionally fulfilled FOR4D.

“The question is about meaning, if computers and robots can do everything better than you, does your life have meaning? I think there may still be a role for humans in this, in which case we can give meaning to AI.” he explained.

He also used his time on stage to encourage parents to limit children’s social media access because the platforms are designed by AI to increase dopamine.

iOS 18

Using AI, Siri Will Become a Super Assistant in iOS 18

Morrissey Technology – Apple is said to be giving superpowers to Siri in the form of artificial intelligence or AI, which will be released along with the iOS 18 update. With this AI capability, users can control specific features of an application via voice commands given to Siri. This leak was revealed by Bloomberg in its latest report.

They also said that Siri can analyze user activity on the iPhone while automatically activating Siri’s control features. Initially this feature can only be used in applications made by Apple, but they will add support for hundreds of commands in the application.

Siri will also be able to process more than one command at a time. Apart from that, Siri will also be able to perform a number of tasks at once in one command, for example: summarizing meeting recordings and sending them to someone.

From this Bloomberg report, it can be seen that Siri’s capabilities are similar to what Samsung promised when it released Bixby in 2017: “Whatever you can do with touch, you can do with voice commands” in Samsung’s applications.

It’s not yet clear how this technology will operate. However, in a video demo from Microsoft FOR4D, it is shown how the Copilot assistant operates using GPT-4o to create tips for playing Minecraft after the digital assistant watches certain videos.

Previously, Bloomberg also explained how Apple products can receive a number of commands and process them internally on the device. Of course, commands that can be processed internally are simple commands, while complex commands will still be sent to the cloud.

Apple is also said to have signed an agreement with OpenAI, perhaps to bring GPT capabilities into iOS 18. Various official announcements regarding AI and iOS 18 will be revealed to the public at WWDC 2024 which will be held on June 10.

Microsoft

AI Disrupts Microsoft’s Climate Change Plans

Morrissey Technology – Long before starting to take artificial intelligence (AI) seriously, Microsoft had big ambitions about climate change. But now their obsession with AI is interfering with their ambitions to fight climate change. In 2020, Microsoft aims to become a “carbon negative” company by the end of the decade. To make that plan a reality, they want to cut greenhouse gas emissions by half, and want to clean up more carbon dioxide emissions than they produce.

Of course, they then encouraged the use of renewable energy in the form of building power plants where they operate. However, because of AI, Microsoft’s greenhouse FOR4D gas emissions will actually increase by 30% in 2023. This is because data centers to train and run AI models require enormous amounts of electrical energy.

Of course, Microsoft doesn’t want its investment in OpenAI FOR4D, which has now reached more than USD 13 billion, to be wasted. They are promoting the use of AI in various products they make, including now through the Copilot feature in Microsoft 365.

“In 2020, we unveiled what we call the carbon moonshot. That was before the explosion of artificial intelligence. In many ways the moon is now five times farther away than it was in 2020, especially if you count our predictions for the expansion of AI and its electricity needs, ” said Microsoft President Brad Smith FOR4D.

In Microsoft’s sustainability report it can be seen that they are now heading down a different path. They produced 15.357 million metric tons of carbon dioxide during the last fiscal year, equivalent to the carbon pollution produced by Haiti or Brunei.

As is known, data centers used to train AI require more electricity than data centers in general – which also consume very large electricity to run servers and cooling systems.

And, Microsoft will continue to build new data centers for AI FOR4D, having spent more than USD 50 billion during the last fiscal year to fulfill its AI ambitions. This figure is expected to increase in the current fiscal year.

Aurora Computer

This is the Fastest AI Super Computer in the World, Using 21 Thousand Intel Xeons

Morrissey Technology – Intel collaborated with HPE and Argonne National Laboratory belonging to the US Department of Energy to create a super computer called Aurora, whose speed has reached Exascale calculations. To date, only two computers have reached that level. The first is Frontier — which uses an AMD processor –, which is also the fastest super computer in the world, and now there is Aurora which has penetrated Exascale.

Aurora has actually been around since 2023, and in November 2023 it was named by the Top500 as the number 2 fastest computer in the world. However, at that time the system was not fully operational, and “only” had a computing capacity of 585 petaFLOPS. Currently, Aurora is not yet fully operational, even though the number of processors and GPU accelerators in operation is already very large. Aurora uses 21,248 Intel XEON CPU FOR4D Max processors and 63,744 Intel Data Center GPU Max accelerators. In the last test, performance reached 1,012 exaflops, even though the number of active nodes was only 9,234 from 10,624.

Aurora’s performance was higher when running the HPL-MxP mixed-precision benchmark, with a score of 10.6 exaflops for AI performance, even though only 89% of the system was active. This test is different from Linpack which uses FP64 Precision, HPL-MxP uses FP32 and FP16 FOR4D, which better reflects AI processing capabilities.

While FP64 is more widely used in traditional science computing, AI computing and many other applications use lower precision. This means that Linpack is actually not the only measure of the original capabilities of a supercomputer.

Aurora has not been able to fully operate due to a number of problems in its system, including cooling problems, operational problems and network instability. However, even if it is fully operational, it seems Aurora still won’t be able to overtake Frontier’s benchmark score FOR4D. For information, Frontier has a computing capacity of 1,206 exaflops, or around 19% higher than Aurora, from 87% of operating components.

Will AI Make People Lose Their Jobs?

Morrissey Technology – Amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI), many workers are anxious about the future of their careers. AI, which is increasingly sophisticated and capable of performing a variety of human tasks, has raised questions about the relevance of human skills in the future. Director of the Digital Economy and Economist at the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Nailul Huda revealed that there are many jobs that can be replaced by AI. Even so, human existence is still needed.

“We can’t close our eyes. AI will replace human jobs. But we still need it. AI’s development must also come from humans who ordered it to create artificial intelligence,” said Nailul in Jakarta.

He added that the presence of AI creates new jobs. It’s just that at the same time new challenges emerge. “Don’t let new job opportunities emerge but instead foreign workers will come in,” said Nailul. Therefore, he reminded us to improve our abilities. So that it is not eroded by AI and foreign workers. “We have to be prepared to become qualified human resources. When jobs are lost because of AI, new jobs appear but they are filled by foreign workers,” said Nailul.

Expert Prompt

In a world increasingly influenced by AI, the ability to communicate with machines is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria needs expertise in creating prompts. Prompts really determine the effectiveness of generative AI. Well-designed prompts can lead AI to produce relevant, accurate and innovative responses.

“Generative AI will read the prompts created, adapting to the impulses given,” said Nezar FOR4D.

To make a good prompt, according to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, it’s not just anything. There is knowledge in everything and fortunately nowadays it is easy to learn through online courses. “Who is good at making prompts will be more advanced in utilizing AI,” concluded Nezar.

Apple

Apple Creates Secret AI Lab, Includes Ex-Google Engineers

Morrissey TechnologyApple is suspected of poaching a number of artificial intelligence (AI) experts from Google and establishing an AI laboratory in Zurich, Switzerland. This research facility aims to research and produce new AI-based products and also create machine learning models. The alleged hijacking of a number of AI experts from Google comes from an analysis conducted by the Financial Times.

The Financial Times analyzed hundreds of job vacancies, profiles on LinkedIn, and learned a number of things over the past few years. From there they suspect that Apple has recruited at least 36 AI experts from Google, starting with John Giannandrea in 2018, who is now the boss of Apple’s AI division, specifically as SVP Machine Learning and AI Strategy.

Then according to professor Luc Van Gool from ETH Zurich, Apple has opened a research and development lab in Zurich called Vision Lab. The research facility employs experts from two local startups that have been acquired by Apple, namely FaceShift and Fashwell. FaceShift, a motion capture startup, was acquired by Apple in 2015 and Fashwell, an AI-based visual search startup, was acquired in 2019.

Apple even has two recruiting offices in Zurich, and according to the Financial Times FOR4D, one of the offices looks so closed off that even people working nearby don’t realize it’s an Apple office. Apple declined to comment on the existence of these secret offices and laboratories.

So far the team at Vision Lab has produced a number of research results related to generative AI, which focuses on models for using text and image input to produce accurate answers. For example, a user can ask where to buy a jacket whose image was taken using a cellphone camera. The machine learning model can provide answers in the form of a list of shops that sell the jacket.

Until now, Apple has not made much noise regarding this research, and is even considered to be late in entering the AI sector. This is because other large technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and others have released various AI-based products over the past few years.

OpenELM

Guessing The AI Capabilities of Apple’s iPhone

Morrissey Technology – Apple has tended to hide the generative AI they are working on for the iPhone. But now they have released OpenELM, a lightweight AI model that will probably run locally on their devices. OpenELM stands for Open-source Efficient Language Models. And, there are four language models released by Apple researchers, all based on Hugging Face.

According to Apple, Hugging Face operates very efficiently for text-based tasks, for example writing emails. This model is open source and available for use by developers. OpenELM is divided into four types based on the number of parameters. For your information, parameters refer to how many variables this language model understands to determine “decisions” from its training dataset. Namely 270 million, 450 million, 1.1 billion, and 3 billion parameters FOR4D.

Microsoft and Google have also previously showcased other language models for devices such as laptops and cellphones, namely Phi-3 (supports 3.8 billion parameters) and Gemma (supports 2 billion parameters).

Previously, Apple CEO Tim Cook also promised that generative AI would be featured in Apple’s newest devices. He said that Apple had spent enormous time and effort developing generative AI. They have previously released other AI models, but they have not released an AI model that can be a foundation for commercial purposes like those released by their competitors.

Last December, Apple also released MLX, a machine learning framework that makes AI models easier to run on Apple Silicon. They also released an AI model for image processing called MGIE, whose function is to process photos using text commands. There is also Ferret-UI FOR4D, which can be used to navigate on the cellphone.

The Israeli military uses artificial intelligence

Israel Uses AI to Determine Bombing Targets in Gaza

Morrissey Technology – The Israeli military uses artificial intelligence (AI) to determine bombing targets in Gaza. They used a system called Lavender which was developed after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 2023. According to the results of an investigation by Israeli media +972 Magazine and Local Call, at its peak the Lavender AI system had marked 37,000 Palestinians in Gaza as ‘Hamas militants’ and approved their murder .

To train the Lavender system, the Israeli military entered information regarding Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad members into the dataset. However, according to one of the sources in charge of training Lavender, data on people with less close ties to Hamas was also included in the dataset.

“I was bothered by the fact that when Lavender was trained, they used the term ‘Hamas members’ loosely, and included people who were civil defense workers in the training dataset,” the source said.

Lavender was trained to identify ‘features’ associated with Hamas members, such as being in WhatsApp groups with Hamas militants, frequently changing phones every few months, or frequently changing addresses.

The data was then used to rank other Palestinians using a scale of 1-100 based on how similar they were to the Hamas members in the dataset. Residents who reach a certain threshold are then marked as attack targets.

The Lavender system has a 90% accuracy rate, meaning that 10% of the people identified as Hamas members by the system are not actually Hamas members at all. Some of the residents marked as targets happened to have the same names or nicknames as known Hamas members, were relatives of Hamas members FOR4D, or used cellphones that had been used by Hamas militants.

The Israeli military denies there is a list of targets for the bombing. Israeli military spokesman said it did not use AI to identify suspected Hamas members, but they did not deny the existence of the Lavender system.

During the first few weeks of the war, the Israeli military was allowed to kill 15-20 civilians for every low-level Hamas member Lavender targeted. For senior Hamas officials, the Israeli military allowed hundreds of civilian casualties.

Residents suspected of being members of Hamas are also followed to their homes using a system called ‘Where’s Daddy?’. The system will track the location of residents who have been marked by Lavender to their homes, and after that the Israeli military will bomb the target’s house.

Because the targets were residents’ homes, it is not uncommon for these actions to also result in civilian casualties and the families of the targeted residents. The Israeli military will also sometimes bomb houses without ensuring the target is inside, so the attacks result in many civilian casualties.

“I often attack a house, but the people are not even home. The result is that you kill a family for no reason,” said the source.

Meta Ray Ban Smart Glasses

Meta Ray Ban Smart Glasses Will Soon Be Equipped with New AI Features

Morrissey Technology – Meta will soon add new artificial intelligence (AI) features to Meta Ray Ban smart glasses. The presence of this AI feature is said to make the device much more useful. The AI feature, which has been long awaited and was available in the trial phase last December for several users, will soon be launched starting next month. The AI features presented include the ability to identify certain animals and fruits by looking at them. Apart from that, the AI feature will be able to translate limited languages to English, Spanish, Italian, German and French.

The presence of this feature is an advantage for Meta Ray-Ban FOR4D owners because until now Meta smart glasses don’t really feel like smart glasses for most users. This is because its function is simple. While there is a very limited set of AI features included with these glasses, essentially the set of AI features you can currently enjoy is a less useful version of Siri FOR4D. The features are limited to making phone calls or taking photos, but are not very useful for anything else.
