MediaTek rilis cip ponsel premium Dimensity 8400

Jakarta- MediaTek telah merilis Dimensity 8400, cip untuk ponsel pintar kelas premium yang menurut perusahaan menawarkan performa kecerdasan artifisial (AI) generatif terkuat di kelasnya.

“MediaTek mengubah standar pengalaman ponsel pintar premium dengan Dimensity 8400, mendorong kreativitas melalui aplikasi AI generatif dan agentik serta meningkatkan pengalaman gaming mobile ke tingkat yang lebih tinggi,” kata Manajer Umum Unit Bisnis Komunikasi Nirkabel MediaTek Yenchi Lee sebagaimana dikutip dalam siaran pers perusahaan pada Rabu.

Dimensity 8400, yang dikembangkan menyusul kesuksesan cip kelas atas Dimensity 9400, untuk pertama kalinya membawa desain “All Big Core” ke pasar ponsel pintar premium.

CPU ini dibekali teknologi NPU yang bisa mempercepat tugas-tugas Gen-AI, juga Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) buatan MediaTek yang memiliki kemampuan mengubah aplikasi AI konvensional menjadi aplikasi AI agentik yang lebih cerdas.

System on Chip (SoC) Dimensity 8400 mengusung prosesor delapan inti Arm Cortex-A725 dengan kecepatan hingga 3,25 GHz, yang mampu meningkatkan multi-core sebesar 41 persen dibandingkan generasi sebelumnya, Dimensity 8300.

Dimensity 8400 dirancang untuk mengontrol performa dan menghemat daya CPU secara presisi, sehingga dapat menghemat penggunaan daya puncak hingga 44 persen dibandingkan pendahulunya.

Untuk mendukung pengalaman gaming yang lebih imersif, Dimensity 8400 dilengkapi GPU Arm Mali-G720 dengan klaim performa puncak 24 persen lebih tinggi dan kemampuan menghemat daya 42 persen lebih baik dibandingkan Dimensity 8300.

Tandem antara GPU Mali-G720 dan MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) menawarkan pengalaman gameplay yang mulus.

Selain itu, ada MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0 yang mengoptimalkan performa game dan aplikasi secara real-time.

Dengan NPU 880 MediaTek, Dimensity 8400 mendukung berbagai model AI arus utama seperti LLM, SLM, dan LMM.

Dengan demikian, pengguna bisa menikmati aplikasi Gen-AI terbaru untuk penerjemahan, penulisan ulang, pemberian jawaban kontekstual, perekaman AI, dan pembuatan media.​​​​​​​

Dimensity 8400 mengintegrasikan DAE, yang sebelumnya diperkenalkan dalam Dimensity 9400, sehingga pengembang aplikasi dapat menciptakan aplikasi AI agentik inovatif yang mampu memprediksi kebutuhan dan menyesuaikan preferensi pengguna.

Cip Dimensity 8400 juga dilengkapi dengan MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP, yang memanfaatkan teknologi QPD remosaic untuk menangkap lebih banyak cahaya, meningkatkan kecepatan dan akurasi fokus, serta menghasilkan foto beresolusi tinggi.​​​​​​​

Dimensity 8400 mendukung perekaman HDR di seluruh rentang zoom, memungkinkan pengguna merekam video dengan kualitas tinggi.

Fitur tambahan Dimensity 8400 meliputi modem 5G-A yang mendukung hingga 3CC-CA dengan performa kecepatan hingga 5,17Gbps.

Selanjutnya, ada teknologi Network Observation System (NOS) untuk perpindahan 5G/Wi-Fi lebih presisi yang meningkatkan efisiensi daya dan konektivitas jaringan serta dukungan resolusi WQHD+ hingga 144Hz dan layar ganda.

Ponsel pintar pertama yang menggunakan Dimensity 8400 akan mulai tersedia pada akhir tahun 2024.

MediaTek Prepares Arm Chips for Windows Laptops

Morrissey TechnologyMediaTek is said to be developing an Arm chip for Windows-based laptops, which appears to be prepared to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chip. According to Reuters, this information came from a source familiar with this matter, but who was not named.

The Windows operating system referred to here is the Copilot+ PC device which was just showcased by Microsoft in May 2024. This is a laptop equipped with a chip with advanced AI processing capabilities, and Microsoft claims will be the laptop for the future. Both Microsoft and MediaTek declined to comment on MediaTek’s new chip.

However, according to sources, the MediaTek chip will only be launched in 2025, namely after Qualcomm’s exclusive agreement to supply the laptop chip ends. The chips will use Arm’s “off-the-shelf” designs to make them easier to manufacture.

In fact, MediaTek also has a Kompanio chip for Chromebooks. This chip could be used as a basis for designing the Windows chip. It is not yet known whether Microsoft has given the green light for this chip from MediaTek for Copilot+ PC.

For information, in 2016 Microsoft collaborated with Qualcomm FOR4D to work together on a Windows operating system but running on Arm architecture, which is usually used in cellphones and tablets – which have a smaller battery capacity than laptops.

From there, Microsoft then gave exclusive rights to Qualcomm to make chips for Arm-based Windows until 2024. The agreement will end this year, and that’s why other companies have started making Arm chips that are compatible with Arm versions of Windows.

Apart from MediaTek, there are also Nvidia and AMD which are working on Arm chips for Windows laptops. Interestingly, Nvidia worked on this chip with the help of MediaTek. However, this latest MediaTek chip is reportedly separate from their collaboration with Nvidia.

MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ Released, AI Processing Becomes Faster

Compared to its predecessor, the clock speed of the Dimensity 9300+ is higher, this is because the main core (Cortex-X4) is set at 3.4GHz, not 3.25GHz like its predecessor. Meanwhile, the other three Cortex-X4 cores still have a speed of 2.85GHz, and the four power-saving cores are Cortex-A720 2GHz.

So even though the chip is still produced using the same 4nm+ process from TSMC, the performance can be faster. The GPU is still the same, namely the Immortalis-G720 which is equipped with ray tracing. The Dimensity 9300+ integrates a 2nd generation hardware raytracing engine with an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU, providing gamers with a fast raytracing experience at a smooth 60 FPS, complemented by console-standard global lighting effects. Improvements also occurred in the AI ​​Processing Unit (APU), specifically the APU 790 FOR4D which promises a performance increase of 10% for AI processing because it uses NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology.

The powerful APU 790 AI engine enables the Dimensity 9300+ to not only support large language models (LLM) with parameters 1B, 7B, and 13B, with scalability up to 33B, but also run LLM quickly and efficiently. With NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology, Dimensity 9300+ can run LLM FOR4D with seven billion parameters at 22 tokens per second, faster than its rivals. With MediaTek’s Imagiq 990 ISP offering 18-bit RAW processing, the Dimensity 9300+ is promised to produce high quality photos and videos, even in low-light environments.
