Using AI, Siri Will Become a Super Assistant in iOS 18

Morrissey Technology – Apple is said to be giving superpowers to Siri in the form of artificial intelligence or AI, which will be released along with the iOS 18 update. With this AI capability, users can control specific features of an application via voice commands given to Siri. This leak was revealed by Bloomberg in its latest report.

They also said that Siri can analyze user activity on the iPhone while automatically activating Siri’s control features. Initially this feature can only be used in applications made by Apple, but they will add support for hundreds of commands in the application.

Siri will also be able to process more than one command at a time. Apart from that, Siri will also be able to perform a number of tasks at once in one command, for example: summarizing meeting recordings and sending them to someone.

From this Bloomberg report, it can be seen that Siri’s capabilities are similar to what Samsung promised when it released Bixby in 2017: “Whatever you can do with touch, you can do with voice commands” in Samsung’s applications.

It’s not yet clear how this technology will operate. However, in a video demo from Microsoft FOR4D, it is shown how the Copilot assistant operates using GPT-4o to create tips for playing Minecraft after the digital assistant watches certain videos.

Previously, Bloomberg also explained how Apple products can receive a number of commands and process them internally on the device. Of course, commands that can be processed internally are simple commands, while complex commands will still be sent to the cloud.

Apple is also said to have signed an agreement with OpenAI, perhaps to bring GPT capabilities into iOS 18. Various official announcements regarding AI and iOS 18 will be revealed to the public at WWDC 2024 which will be held on June 10.

iOS 18 Leaks, Apple Brings AI Assistant to Safari Browser?

Morrissey TechnologyiOS 18 will reportedly include a number of new artificial intelligence (AI) features spread across the operating system. A new rumor today suggests that one of those features may be a “Safari browsing assistant.” However, it is still unclear what the actual function of this feature is. Reported by 9to5Mac, in a post on social media today, code examiner Nicolás Álvarez shared two new features that are being worked on at Apple, namely:

– Safari browsing assistant

– Encrypted visual search

According to Álvarez, both of these features use Apple’s Private Relay infrastructure to send data back to Apple. Álvarez speculates that this is a privacy-preserving practice on Apple’s part, so that Apple does not learn users’ IP addresses. Please note, iCloud Private Relay is currently only available to iCloud+ customers FOR4D. Apple already offers different visual search style features, integrated into Spotlight and the Photos app. It’s not explicitly clear whether “encrypted visual search” is just a more secure version of an existing feature or something entirely new.

What’s more interesting here is the “Safari browsing assistant” feature. Based on the name alone, this feature will likely bring AI features to Safari, similar to what other browsers already offer. Microsoft’s Edge browser, for example, has a different built-in AI Copilot feature. Arc from The Browser Company also combines various AI features with web browsing.

Bloomberg reports that Apple will likely work with companies like Google to support some of its new AI features. iOS 18 is expected to be announced at WWDC, which kicks off on June 10, and any announcement regarding AI collaboration on iOS 18 likely won’t happen before that event. Álvarez also reports that iOS 18 will bring two new features to Apple Maps on iPhone, including custom route creation and new topographic maps FOR4D.
